Mackenzie Schoonmaker is an associate in the Washington, D.C. office of Beveridge & Diamond, P.C. Ms. Schoonmaker’s practice focuses on litigation and regulatory environmental matters. Ms. Schoonmaker’s litigation experience includes representing clients in matters arising under federal and state environmental statutes and common law. Ms. Schoonmaker has also engaged in significant pro bono matters, including representing a civil rights organization pursuing a discrimination claim under the Fair Housing Act. Ms. Schoonmaker has a FIFRA practice and represents multinational corporations in data compensation arbitrations, focusing on the defense of data owners against follow-on registrants of pesticides. Ms. Schoonmaker’s environmental practice includes counseling clients on a range of environmental laws, including the federal Clean Air Act and related state statutes. Ms. Schoonmaker also counsels clients on developments pertaining to domestic and international global product stewardship initiatives related to product design and recycling. Ms. Schoonmaker received her legal degree (J.D., magna cum laude) with a certificate in environmental law in 2007 from Pace University School of Law, where she was a senior associate on the Pace Environmental Law Review. She also earned a Master of Environmental Management in 2007 from Yale University, School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, with a concentration in economics, policy and law. Ms. Schoonmaker received her undergraduate degree in environmental science from the State University of New York at Purchase. While attending law school, Ms. Schoonmaker worked with the Natural Resources Defense Council, the Pace Energy Project, and the Pace Environmental Litigation Clinic. In addition, she served as a judicial intern for the Honorable Paul L. Friedman, United States District Court for the District of Columbia and the Honorable Deborah A. Batts, United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. She was awarded the Westchester County Bar Outstanding Law Student Award in 2006 and the White Plains Bar Association Environmental Law Scholar Award in 2007. Ms. Schoonmaker is a member of the District of Columbia Bar and the New York State Bar.
