Katherine Gates is a Principal in the Washington, D.C. office of Beveridge & Diamond, P.C., with a general environmental and toxic tort litigation practice. Ms. Gates' practice is devoted primarily to federal and state trial and appellate litigation in the environmental and toxic tort areas. She litigates matters under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act, similar state statutes and common law tort claims regarding alleged hazardous substance contamination at facilities and sites. Many such matters focus on natural resource damages claims under federal and state law, as well as responding to government requests and negotiating with federal and state agencies on remediation and liability issues.

Before joining the Firm, Ms. Gates graduated from Georgetown Law School (J.D., 2001), where she served as the Special Projects Editor for the Georgetown Law Review. During law school, Ms. Gates clerked at the U.S. Department of Justice's Environmental Appellate Division and the Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance, as well as the environmental section of the Institute for Public Representation clinic. In addition, Ms. Gates clerked for the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation while getting her B.A. (summa cum laude) at the State University of New York College at Geneseo.
