Commending the firm for its dedication to protecting the most vulnerable members of our community, Whitman-Walker Health awarded its 2014 Going the Extra Mile Law Firm Award to Beveridge & Diamond, P.C. on June 4, 2014.

"We are deeply honored to receive this recognition," said Hal Segall, Chair of Beveridge & Diamond's pro bono practice. "It's a privilege to work with Whitman-Walker, and we are humbled to have had the opportunity to do so for more than 20 years. As we thank Whitman-Walker for this great honor, we look forward to continuing our work with them for many years to come."

Whitman-Walker Health is the primary community health center serving greater Washington’s diverse urban community, including individuals who face barriers to accessing care, and with a special expertise in LGBT and HIV care.

At this year's Going the Extra Mile awards reception, Whitman-Walker presented the annual Joel A. Toubin Memorial Award for outstanding advocacy on behalf of people living with HIV and the LGBT community, and the Going the Extra Mile Law Firm Award for outstanding service to Whitman-Walker clients. The 2014 Joel A. Toubin Memorial Award honorees were Hon. Donald B. Verrilli, Jr., Solicitor General of the United States, and the National Center for Medical-Legal Partnership at the George Washington University.

Over twenty years ago, Beveridge & Diamond attorneys established a bi-weekly wills and estate counseling clinic, and our attorneys have taken on litigation involving discrimination against HIV-positive individuals and the LGBT community as well as privacy issues. Whitman-Walker Health has presented the Firm with a number of awards for establishing the wills and estate counseling clinic, for accomplishments in particular cases, and for the Firm's overall commitment.

Other recent pro bono accolades that our firm has received include:

  • Beveridge & Diamond was nominated to receive American Gateways' 2014 Access to Justice Award for Firm of the Year for our work on Project Durango, a case in which we represent a Mexican mayor and his family who are applying for political asylum.  Maddie Kadas and Ed Grauman in the firm's Austin office led the multi-office team that worked on this matter.
  • The firm was awarded a D.C. Access to Justice Commission certificate for  “gold level participation” in its 2013 Raising the Bar in D.C. Campaign, stating that our “generosity and leadership have been instrumental to ensuring access to justice for impoverished residents of Washington, D.C."  The Raising the Bar in D.C. Campaign was launched in 2010 in order to strengthen law firm giving to legal services organizations.
