Jose Almanzar Interviewed by Univision NY Regarding New York’s Environmental Rights Amendment
Last week, B&D Associate Jose Almanzar (New York) was interviewed by a reporter from Univision 41 Nueva York (one of two East Coast flagship stations of the Spanish-language network) concerning the importance of New York’s Ballot Proposal No. 2 (amending the NY Constitution to include new text that “Each person shall have a right to clean air and water, and a healthful environment”).
Proposal 2, the Environmental Rights Amendment, was on the ballot in New York on November 2, 2021 as a legislatively referred constitutional amendment. It was approved by the voters.
In the news clip, Jose comments (in Spanish), "this amendment will provide an opportunity to many communities to make demands of the government but not necessarily from private individuals. We have to remember that violations of constitutional rights are not generally raised against private companies.” Click here for a video clip of the story (Jose's interview begins at the 2:45 minute mark).
Jose focuses his practice on environmental due diligence counseling for business and real estate transactions, while maintaining a diverse toxic tort and contaminated sites litigation and regulatory caseload. Additionally, he co-chairs the Environmental Justice Committee for the New York State Bar Association’s Environmental & Energy Law Section, counsels non-profit organizations doing work on environmental justice matters on a pro bono basis, and regularly presents on environmental justice issues affecting New Yorkers.
