NYSBA

B&D Associate Jose Almanzar (New York) has been appointed to the New York State Bar Association’s (NYSBA) Task Force on Racism, Social Equity, and the Law, "a comprehensive new task force that will examine how structural racism permeates and influences all aspects of daily life leading to injustice and inequality among New Yorkers."

In this role, Jose will head the Environmental Justice portion of the Task Force, focusing on how the NYSBA can best advance environmental justice goals and the roles its attorneys can play with respect to resolving environmental justice issues.

“I am honored that the President of the NYSBA selected me for this assignment,” Jose said. “I look forward to working closely with the rest of the Task Force to identify policies that are leading to inequitable outcomes for BIPOC individuals and disadvantaged communities. I think one of the more important jobs of the Task Force will be promoting policies that advance environmental and social justice goals.”

“NYSBA is fortunate to have selected Jose to be a member of this important initiative,” said Ben Wilson, B&D Chairman. "His deep knowledge of environmental justice will help the Task Force address this important and evolving area of the law."

Jose focuses his practice on environmental due diligence counseling for business and real estate transactions, while maintaining a diverse litigation and regulatory caseload. Additionally, he co-chairs the Environmental Justice Committee for the New York State Bar Association’s Environmental & Energy Law Section, counsels non-profit organizations doing work on environmental justice matters on a pro bono basis, and regularly presents on environmental justice issues affecting New Yorkers.
