Karen Hansen Speaking in ACC Webinar on WOTUS

Principal Karen Hansen (Austin) will speak in a webinar hosted by the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC). The webinar is titled "What Companies Need to Know and Do About the Proposed Waters of the US Rule and a Shifting Clean Water Act" and will take place from 1:00pm to 2:00pm (EST) on January 8, presented in conjunction with Beveridge & Diamond's sponsorship of ACC's Environmental & Sustainability Committee.

The webinar will review the changing landscape surrounding the Clean Water Act (CWA) and suggest actions companies can take to protect their interests and shape these critical developments in 2019. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have proposed a new definition of waters of the United States (WOTUS), which would narrow considerably the CWA’s regulatory scope if it becomes a final rule. This rule will certainly face federal court challenges, and the regulated community will have opportunities in the first quarter of 2019 to shape the final rule and contribute to the record supporting it. At the same time, companies must navigate state-by-state variation in the scope of the CWA, the product of litigation over the Obama Administration’s 2015 WOTUS rule.
