Beth Richardson focuses her practice on regulatory and transactional issues associated with hazardous wastes, electronic waste, and consumer and industrial products.  She helps trade association clients, retailers, electronics manufacturers, chemical companies, and consumer products companies understand and comply with the numerous overlapping international requirements governing materials and products.  Whether interpreting regulatory or voluntary industry guidance, drafting commercial agreements or rulemaking comments, or representing clients in administrative proceedings, and enforcement actions, she helps clients effectively market their products and manage their regulatory obligations.

Examples of her experience include:

  • Counseling clients on developments pertaining to, and seeking compliance with domestic and international product stewardship initiatives related to product design and recycling, including the European Union's RoHS and WEEE Directives.
  • Advising on solid/hazardous waste, hazardous materials and dangerous goods transportation, international restrictions on shipments of recyclable materials.
  • Negotiating on behalf of clients in enforcement proceedings for DOT hazardous materials transportation and RCRA hazardous waste issues. She has also represented trade associations and companies in challenges to EPA rulemakings and other agency actions.
  • Helping clients navigate the environmental aspects of major transactions, including identifying, evaluating and allocating potential environmental liabilities associated with major chemical and other manufacturing facilities, drafting environmental provisions of agreements, and transferring environmental permits.

Pro bono matters are an important part of Beth’s practice.  She served as second-chair trial attorney in a medical malpractice case that culminated in a jury trial. She also represented the family of a disabled child seeking appropriate educational placement under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.
