Aaron Goldberg to Speak on Diverging Global Waste Classifications at BIR World Recycling Convention & Exhibition
Principal Aaron Goldberg (Washington, DC, and Austin, TX) will present “The Paradox of Classifying Recycled Materials: One Treaty, Divergent Outcomes” at the Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) 2026 World Recycling Convention & Exhibition.
Using black mass from lithium-ion battery recycling as an example, Aaron will examine how countries apply the Basel Convention’s waste-classification framework differently and the practical implications for transboundary waste movements. Aaron will also join a panel discussion on the forces shaping the electronics recycling sector, moderated by Josephita Harry of Pan American Zinc LLC. Other panelists will include Emily Sanchez (Chief Economist, Recycled Materials Association) and Federico Zanotti (Senior Policy Officer, BIR).
Aaron advises clients on U.S. and international requirements for managing hazardous wastes and transporting dangerous goods, including e-waste, batteries, and related materials.
BIR is a global recycling industry federation representing more than 30,000 companies in over 70 countries. For more information and to register, please visit the BIR website.
