John Cruden to Speak on Deepwater Horizon Litigation at State of the Coast Conference
Principal John Cruden (Washington, DC) will speak during a plenary session, "Deepwater Horizon: Insider Perspectives on the Litigation, Settlement and Legacy," at the 2025 State of the Coast Conference, on May 22 in New Orleans. The Hon. Carl J. Barbier (U.S. Senior District Judge) and The Hon. Sally Shushan (former U.S. Magistrate Judge) will join John for the plenary session. Ben Allums (Assistant Professor at Loyola University New Orleans College of Law) will moderate. Judges Barbier and Shushan were the judges on the well-known Deepwater Horizon litigation. John, while at the Department of Justice, led the negotiations with BP, which resulted in what the Department of Justice announced as the global resolution of civil claims worth $20.8 billion “the largest settlement with a single entity in the department’s history.”
