Eric Christensen Discusses Federal Funding Freeze with Law360

Principal Eric Christensen (Seattle, WA) recently spoke with Law360 to discuss the impact of President Trump’s Executive Order, Unleashing American Energy, which placed a 90-day halt on payments approved by the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act (IRA).

In “Experts Expect Tweaks, Not Teardown, For Renewable Credits,” Eric called President Trump’s order a “considerable overreach” as the order attempts to interfere with federal spending already approved by Congress through the passing of the IRA, the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

Eric added that he thought “the notion that the president can just stop spending money that hasn’t already been spent is wrong. There’s very little the president can do unilaterally.”

Beveridge & Diamond has assembled a task force to monitor the change in administration across multiple environmental, energy, and natural resources subject areas. Nearly two-thirds of the firm’s lawyers have prior U.S. state or federal government experience, and members of the Task Force include several former EPA and DOJ attorneys who served under both the initial Trump and Biden administrations.
