Biography
With a passion for litigation, Peter is well-equipped to represent clients’ interests.
As a part of B&D’s litigation practice, Peter helps represent clients facing a variety of high-stakes matters across jurisdictions. Recent examples of his work include assisting a team with preparations for oral argument before the Federal Circuit and conducting legal research related to active federal litigation involving a novel Endangered Species Act claim. He has also meticulously reviewed, analyzed, and prepared over 5000 documents in response to agency information requests concerning alleged hazardous waste violations.
Before joining B&D, Peter built a bedrock understanding of federal litigation by clerking for both levels of federal trial court: with U.S. Magistrate Judge Gregory J. Fouratt in the District of New Mexico and U.S. District Court Judge Christine M. Arguello in the District of Colorado. Between both clerkships, Peter drafted over forty substantive judicial orders—including an eighty-six-page order on the merits of claims involving Clean Water Act dredge-and-fill permitting, the National Environmental Policy Act, and the Endangered Species Act. As a clerk, he assisted with ten settlement conferences and two jury trials and, alongside his judge and co-clerk, co-presented a CLE on best practices for drafting jury instructions.
During law school, Peter competed in six litigation competitions and, as a student attorney in the Getches-Green Natural Resources, Energy, and Environmental Law Clinic, drafted a motion for summary judgment on pesticides that succeeded in securing a settlement. While maintaining a full courseload and extracurriculars, he also logged 544 volunteer hours, which included internships with the District of Colorado’s U.S. Attorney’s Office and another federal magistrate judge. As a result of these experiences, Peter understands what judges need to hear to rule favorably for his clients.
Peter maintains an active pro bono practice at B&D focused on tenant rights. Through Peter’s pro bono practice, he has rapidly gained invaluable experience working directly with his clients and preparing litigation strategies. His most recent victory involved obtaining complete dismissal of an eviction case within 48 hours of entering his appearance.
