Biography
Emma helps clients navigate environmental & land use concerns with a particular focus on agricultural, carbon markets, and renewable energy permitting and project development.
She also has significant experience with Clean Air Act compliance and contaminated site remediation. She supports a diverse range of clients—including farmers, composting facilities, and agricultural operations, as well as offshore wind and solar facilities, petroleum refineries, concrete batch plants, and petrochemical and plastics manufacturers—providing strategic counsel on leasing, environmental impact mitigation, and securing state and federal agency approvals.
Emma also defends projects against legal challenges, ranging from industry opponents and community complaints to contractual disputes and regulatory enforcement. With experience in both regulatory and litigation matters, Emma brings valuable insight into issues involving natural resource management, emerging contaminants, and toxic torts.
Before joining B&D, she spent two years as a law clerk for the Honorable Michael Vhay of the Massachusetts Land Court, working on matters pertaining to right, title, and interest in land.
Prior to law school, Emma worked primarily in food access and justice in the Boston area, grounding her legal practice in a longstanding commitment to agricultural systems and equitable land use.
