Marc Goldstein Shares Perspective on AI and Talent Strategy with Law.com Pro Mid Market
Firmwide Managing Principal Marc Goldstein (Boston) spoke with Law.com Pro Mid‑Market about the interplay between generative AI adoption and midsize law firm hiring trends. In “Midsize Demand for Talent Remains Even as AI Adoption Grows,” Law.com discusses how AI is reshaping—but not replacing—law firm recruitment strategies with several midsize firm leaders.
Marc said that while B&D is mindful of AI’s long-term potential, it has not influenced the size of the firm’s summer associate program or its larger strategic growth plan.
Marc explained that B&D’s summer associate program is an “important pipeline” to grow the firm’s Associate headcount. Without a strong summer program, the firm would have to shift towards a more lateral hiring market, which has other costs and risks. B&D remains focused on its summer recruiting as one of the best ways to identify high quality law students who have both a demonstrated interest in environmental law and a focus on working at a corporate law firm, which makes long-term success at the firm more likely. B&D welcomed its largest summer associate class this year, with 16 law students working in B&D offices across the country, and has grown to more than 160 lawyers over the past 18 months as part of its strategic growth plan that Marc discussed with Law.com Pro Mid‑Market last year.
B&D holds top-tier rankings for environmental law and litigation from legal directories and ranking services, including Chambers USA, Best Lawyers, Law360, and The Legal 500. Best Lawyers named B&D the 2025 “Law Firm of the Year" for Environmental Litigation. Many of our more than 160 lawyers are similarly recognized as outstanding practitioners.
