Paul Hagen and Weiwei Luo Speaking in ACC Webinar on Circular Economy

Principal Paul Hagen and Of Counsel Weiwei Luo (Washington, DC) will speak in a webinar hosted by the Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC). The webinar is titled "Key Legal and Compliance Risks of the Circular Economy" and will take place from 1:00pm to 2:00pm (EDT) on June 5, presented in conjunction with Beveridge & Diamond's sponsorship of ACC's Environmental & Sustainability Committee.

The webinar will provide a brief update on legal developments in Europe, China, and at the international level impacting current and future circular economy business models. The European Union is moving ahead with an ambitious package of legislative initiatives and policies to promote a more circular economy. These initiatives are expected to set new waste reduction and recycling targets for various waste streams, with an initial focus on plastics and packaging. The EU has also announced its intention to expand extended producer responsibility (EPR) mandates. At the same time, China has recently prohibited the import of certain types of waste plastics and other materials for recycling, disrupting global trade flows in some recyclable materials. At the international level, negotiations to update the Basel Convention present both new risks and opportunities for advancing circular economy principles and business models worldwide.
