B&D Joins LSE Sustainability Initiative

Beveridge & Diamond announced today that it has joined the Lawyers for a Sustainable Economy (LSE) initiative, pledging to provide $500,000 worth of pro bono legal services by the end of 2020 in support of environmental sustainability.

B&D joins a group of 12 other law firms and corporate partners that collectively pledged over $19.5 million in free legal services to support entrepreneurs and non-profit organizations that are pursuing environmentally sustainable solutions in energy, transportation, land use, and other fields.

Stanford Law School (SLS), Stanford’s Precourt Institute for Energy, and New York University’s State Energy & Environmental Impact Center helped incubate LSE and will track the effort’s impact. SLS and Precourt also recently launched a website that enables potential clients to request pro bono help from LSE law firms.

B&D and the other the law firm members of LSE already provide pro bono services on environmental sustainability matters in areas ranging from marine and land conservation to renewable energy projects. As one example, B&D advised the Chesapeake Conservancy on expanding its use of high-resolution landscape datasets to advance the restoration of Chesapeake Bay.

“As one of the nation’s leading environmental law firms, B&D is proud and eager to participate in this important initiative,” said Managing Principal Russ LaMotte

“Given B&D’s long history and standing in the field of environmental law, it is fitting that B&D has joined this effort,” said David J. Hayes, Executive Director of NYU’s State Energy & Environmental Impact Center. “We applaud the firm’s leadership in this arena.”

“We are delighted to formalize our commitment to supporting environmentally sustainable solutions by partnering with Lawyers for a Sustainable Economy,” said Principal Dan Krainin (New York), who serves as chair of the firm’s Green Team and President of the Law Firm Sustainability Network.
