Washington Lawyers' Committee Recognizes B&D for Pro Bono Civil Rights Work

Beveridge & Diamond received the Washington Lawyers' Committee's Outstanding Achievement Award at the 2015 Wiley A. Branton Awards Luncheon on June 17, 2015. The firm was recognized for its work on a pro bono case brought on behalf of a former employee of a Georgia bank who was terminated by the bank after it learned that he had a criminal record, notwithstanding that he had led a law-abiding life for many years. The case raised broader issues regarding the reintegration of those with prior convictions into the workforce and the disparate racial impact of workplace exclusion based on such convictions. Principal Mark Duvall and Associate Jessalee Landfried from B&Ds Washington, DC, office, pursued the claim, which led to a substantial settlement for the plaintiff.
