B&D Sponsoring, Speaking at ACC's 2019 GlobalChem

Beveridge & Diamond is proud to sponsor the American Chemistry Council's Annual GlobalChem Conference, taking place in Washington, DC, from March 6 to 8. GlobalChem is one of the industry's leading events focused on chemical regulation and provides a unique educational opportunity for chemical industry professionals.

The event includes a 2-day Conference and 1-day Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) Fundamentals Workshop. GlobalChem 2019 will explore the implementation aspect of the updated Toxic Substances Control Act since the passage of the Lautenberg Chemical Safety Act amendments to TSCA, and will include discussions on how the chemicals industry can support the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s efforts to effectively and efficiently implement both the new and existing provisions of TSCA.

Principal Mark Duvall (Washington, DC) will speak in a plenary session titled "TSCA’s Future: Vision for Implementation," which will take place on March 7 from 9:45am to 11:00am (EST). The session will discuss the best case scenario for TSCA implementation in the next 5 to 10 years and how we can set ourselves up for success down the road on key implementation issues.

Later that day, Mark will also speak in a breakout session titled "The Brave New World in Toxicology and Risk Assessment," which will take place from 3:00pm to 4:00pm (EST). The session will offer a brief overview of where risk management has been implemented historically and what some of the legal challenges have been, as well as an update on how EPA is using its new authorities under amended TSCA to take on risk management activities.

Principal Maddie Boyer (Austin) will speak in a plenary session titled "Regulatory Cooperation: Latin America," which will take place on March 8 from 9:00am to 10:15am (EST). The session will discuss recent developments, highlight advocacy wins, tell the story of what we did right, and describe how to progress in Brazil and Argentina into better health outcomes, a stronger chemical manufacturing economy, and increased trade and investment. It will also look ahead to Chile's hosting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum in 2019 and how Latin American chemical regulators and industries can contribute.

Managing Principal Russ LaMotte (Washington, DC) will speak in a breakout session titled "Developments in International Public Law," which will also take place on March 8 from 10:45am to 11:45am (EST). The session will discuss implications of rights-based approaches to international environmental regulation, including Global Pact for the Environment, the United Nations Declaration on Rights of Indigenous People, and the Business and Human Rights Treaty, for transnational companies, and will examine how we can advocate for a health-protective and economically-protective approach.
