B&D Listed as a Law360 "Ceiling Smasher" for High Percentage of Women Principals

Law360

Law360 recognized B&D as a “Ceiling Smasher” in its 2023 Glass Ceiling Report for the high percentage of women in the firm’s equity partnership as compared with industry averages. With women making up 36% of firm principals, B&D ranked number six among firms with 101 to 250 lawyers.

The annual report measures the progress of law firms' efforts to improve gender parity, finding that “while nearly 40% of all attorneys at law firms in the U.S. are women, less than a quarter of equity partners are women.” The Ceiling Smasher ranking identifies the top ten firms in multiple law firm size [?] categories that are “setting the pace” of closing the gender gap at the highest level of the legal industry.

“We are delighted to receive this recognition from Law360 as a 2023 Ceiling Smasher. The number of women attorneys in leadership roles at B&D stems directly from our commitment to DE&I and makes our firm stronger. B&D will continue to lead by example, fostering an inclusive environment for all of our employees through focused investment, flexibility and mentorship opportunities.” - Stacey Halliday

B&D holds Mansfield Rule 4.0 Plus certification, indicating that our firm considers women, LGBTQ+, minorities, and lawyers with disabilities for at least 30% of all significant leadership roles, lateral recruiting, and business development opportunities. The “Plus” status signifies that B&D exceeds the baseline certification requirements – not only considering but achieving 30% representation in firm leadership roles. In 2021, the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD) recognized B&D as a Top Performer and a Compass Award winner.  At B&D, 50% of the lawyers on the firm’s management committee are women or minorities, as are the firm’s general counsel, diversity and inclusion principal, chief administrative and financial officers, and the office managing principals in Austin and San Francisco. Overall, women and minorities comprise half of the firm’s lawyers.
