B&D Principal Steve Richmond Elected Vice President of MetroWest Legal Services Board of Directors

Beveridge & Diamond Principal Steve Richmond (Boston) has been elected as the Vice President of the Board of Directors of the Massachusetts legal services organization MetroWest Legal Services (MWLS). He succeeds Katherine Garrahan of Bowditch & Dewey, who has been elected as President of the Board. In this new role, Steve will support MWLS in its mission to provide free legal assistance to thousands of low-income families in its service area west of Boston, Massachusetts.

MWLS provides legal advocacy to protect and advance the rights of poor, elderly, disabled, and other disenfranchised people in 36 towns throughout the MetroWest Boston area. With over twenty staff, MWLS handles elder law, government benefits, eviction defense, housing and foreclosure cases, special education, children’s access to healthcare, and family law matters, particularly those affecting domestic violence victims.

Commenting on his appointment, Steve said: “This is a challenging time for organizations that provide direct service to people who - through economic circumstances - are often the most heavily impacted by the pandemic. At MWLS, we are fortunate to have an incredible staff, Executive Director, and board, and it is a privilege to work with this team at such a pivotal moment.”

Steve, who has been a board member at MWLS for several years, is currently serving a three-year term as a member of Beveridge & Diamond's management committee and has a deep history of board service and charitable work. In recent years, Steve served as a Fellow in the Access to Justice Fellowship program, a project of the Massachusetts Access to Justice Commission; as a Trustee of the Sudbury Foundation, a philanthropic foundation; as a member of the Board of Directors of Sudbury Valley Trustees, a regional land conservation trust; and as a member of the Board of Directors of the Environmental Business Council of New England, a non-profit that promotes the development of environmental businesses in New England.
