Law360 Names B&D Environmental Practice Group of the Year for 2025
For the fourth time, Law360 named Beveridge & Diamond (B&D) a 2025 "Practice Group of the Year" in the Environmental category. In its announcement, Law360 wrote that Practice Groups of the Year recognizes “the attorney teams behind litigation wins and significant transaction work that resonated throughout the legal industry this past year.”
Law360 interviewed Firmwide Managing Principal Marc Goldstein (Boston) and Principals Megan Morgan (Baltimore) and Drew Silton (Washington, DC) about the firm’s recent successes for a profile on B&D.
Drew led the firm’s 2025 victory in the U.S. Supreme Court in San Francisco v. EPA, establishing that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency must clearly define permit restrictions under the Clean Water Act. The decision provides much-needed certainty in permit requirements for the thousands of wastewater dischargers under the Act. In the article profile, he said that the victory highlights B&D’s “ability to navigate the nuances and intricacies of complex environmental statutes and regulations, yet also step back and make compelling courtroom arguments in more generalist terms about how they fit together and function.”
Marc discussed B&D’s significant growth since 2023, with the firm having added approximately 50 lawyers, including Principal Lisa Dyar (Austin), Of Counsel Amber Ahmed (Austin), Of Counsel Lynne Davies (Washington, DC), and Of Counsel Justin Smith (Washington, DC), as well as seven lawyers from Barg Coffin. Drew noted that the firm’s growing roster was “not transformational,” adding that “we already had a very strong base, and we have brought in some people who are very complementary to initiatives and work we already had going on."
When discussing what sets B&D apart, Megan said, "At many firms the environmental practice group is just the environmental practice group, but we have the air group, the water group, the waste group." She went on to say, “The way we work as a team and across groups, we're able to really seamlessly handle all these issues, see the big picture and how a lot of the things interrelate, and really add a lot of value for the client."
In addition to San Francisco, in 2025, B&D achieved major precedents in environmental law and worked on novel matters, including:
- Obtaining a favorable ruling in New York et al. v. Donald Trump et al. in favor of a leading wind industry trade association in litigation challenging the federal government’s suspension of new and renewed permits for onshore and offshore wind projects.
- Successfully representing the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA) in joining with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) to secure dismissal of a lawsuit challenging EPA’s decisions regarding the study and regulation of PFAS in biosolids
- Representing Agoro Carbon Alliance in securing one of the largest long-term soil carbon credit agreements to date — a 12-year deal for the delivery of 2.6 million soil carbon removal credits. The marquee transaction marks a pivotal milestone in the voluntary carbon market, reinforcing the growing role of nature-based solutions in corporate climate strategies, all while supporting farmers, ranchers, and soil health.
At the end of 2025, Law360 named two B&D victories in its Biggest Energy & Environmental Court Decisions Of 2025. The publication also named Principal Drew Silton a 2025 Rising Star for Environmental Law, and Principal Megan Morgan received the same recognition in 2024. Principal Parker Moore (Washington, DC) also received Law360’s MVP recognition for Environmental Law in 2024, with Principal Eric Klein (Boston) receiving it in 2023 and Principal Jimmy Slaughter (Washington, DC) in 2020.
