Biography

Megan thrives on solving complex environmental problems and finding the most expedient and effective business-forward paths.

Megan is a highly-sought environmental litigator and business counselor. Her extensive experience leading trial and compliance teams, as well as her business background (she holds an MBA), provide her clients a unique perspective on regulatory and adversarial issues. Disciplined, focused, and detail-oriented, Megan employs her organizational skills to manage complex processes and ensure that clients are up to date on developments and matter progress.

Litigation

Megan frequently leads trial teams on Beveridge & Diamond’s largest and most critical cases. She has successfully first-chaired numerous evidentiary trials before administrative bodies and in federal court. Her experience includes securing a favorable ruling striking down over $200 million in illegal and unconstitutional permit fees in California state court, and leading litigation teams before the South Coast Air Quality Management District Hearing Board. Her recognitions include the highly competitive Law360’s “Rising Star” for 2024. Clients value her ability to marshal complicated facts and create winning narratives in court trials, arbitrations, and agency appeals. She is also involved in contract disputes with underlying environmental concepts and routinely works with experts to develop the technical aspects of the case. Her work covers a range of industries, including transportation, manufacturing, raw materials processing, waste treatment, recycling and disposal services, and oil and gas.

ESG and Supply Chain Due Diligence

Megan is the co-chair of the firm’s ESG & Sustainability group and a thought leader on these rapidly developing issues. On the business side of human rights and corporate social responsibility throughout the supply chain, Megan helps clients put policies into practice. Her ESG practice covers a range of issues, including corporate governance, supply chain due diligence, voluntary disclosures, goalsetting, responsible sourcing, and human rights and labor issues in corporate operations and supply chains. She adeptly navigates the corporate environmental footprint and provides concise answers to regulatory questions. She also assists clients with supplier outreach and engagement on supply chain issues, including responsible sourcing of minerals, human rights, and the preparation of conflict minerals reports and modern slavery disclosures. Megan routinely advises on the U.S. SEC conflict minerals rule and other modern slavery reporting requirements around the world including in the UK, Australia, Canada, Germany, and Norway. She provides strategic counseling to clients on developing and structuring corporate sustainability and supply chain due diligence programs, emerging ESG legislation such as the California Climate Disclosure Laws, and emerging supply chain due diligence, forced labor, and climate disclosure reporting requirements in the European Union. As human rights and sustainability become increasingly important to consumers, and, thus, company brands, Megan understands the need for accessible, responsive, and accurate legal counsel and practical advice in these areas.
