Who We Are
Beveridge & Diamond, P.C. was established in Washington, DC in 1974 by a small group of attorneys who practiced environmental and corporate law. Since that time, we have become the largest and one of the oldest firms in the nation that concentrates its practice in all aspects of environmental law and litigation. Among the Firm's current attorneys and alumni are the first Administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the first Commissioner of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, two former EPA General Counsels, several other former federal and state agency officials, and numerous U.S. Department of Justice attorneys with experience in all types of litigation and contested proceedings.
The Firm soon developed a reputation for excellence in the field of environmental law. As landmark pieces of federal and state environmental legislation were passed in the 1970s, the Firm's environmental practice steadily grew and it quickly became known for its depth in all areas of environmental law. Today, we believe that ours is the preeminent environmental practice in the United States. In the 1980s, Beveridge & Diamond saw considerable growth in all of its practice areas and it opened a second office in New York City and a third office in New Jersey. Its client base expanded to encompass virtually every industry sector. To meet the demand of its nationwide client base, the Firm opened an office in San Francisco in 1989. That growth continued into the 1990s with the opening of an office in Baltimore as well as expansion into practice areas such as biotechnology, white collar crime, and insurance coverage. The firm now has offices in Boston and Austin as well, and its various practices are organized into three main practice groups--Environmental Law, Land Use, and Litigation.
