On the Rule of Law and Recent Events

A Statement from Beveridge & Diamond's Management Committee

Our Firm was founded by visionary lawyers, including Bill Ruckelshaus, who stood up for the integrity of our democratic institutions in a moment of Constitutional crisis nearly 50 years ago. Our commitment to upholding the principles of our Nation’s democracy runs deep. As lawyers, we are sworn to uphold these principles.

Today, we speak to condemn the extraordinary and unprecedented violence that occurred on January 6th at the U.S. Capitol. We mourn the tragic injuries and loss of life.

We also join others in the legal community to underscore our support for the rule of law, and our system of laws under the Constitution. This includes such sacred rights and principles as the rights for citizens to assemble peacefully, to petition the Government, to free and fair elections, and to the orderly transfer of power.

We call on others in the legal community and beyond to join us in condemning the recent violence and actions to incite violence, and in recommitting ourselves to uphold and promote the rule of law, the integrity of our democracy, and the resolution of our differences with respect and civility.
